Akkineni Nageswara Rao Biography, Relationship & Career
At age 10, he got associated with the theatre and that is how his journey started. Some of the noted dramas of that, he was a part are Kanakatara, Harishchandra, Telugu Talli, Satyanveshanam, and Aasajyoti among others. He was spotted by legendary filmmaker Ghantasala Balaramaiah seen him at Vijaywada railway station and offered him the lead role in the cult classic film Seeta Rama Jananam. He did play a supportive role before this movie but this movie brought him under the limelight.
In a career that spanned over 7 decades, he went on to star in over 250 films including Telugu, Tamil, and Bollywood movies. He played a range of characters in his decorated career. From supporting functions to lead roles to comedian to character roles. One of his roles that needs a special mention is his role in the cult classic film Devadasu. His fans used to refer to him as Natasamrat. For his performances, he was felicitated with a variety of awards including Padmi Shri, Padma Bhusan, and Dada Saheb Phalke Award among many others.
Off the sets, he has some business interests also. He was deeply involved with a lot of charitable trusts and also started his own noncharitable trusts like Akkineni International Foundation and The Annapurna International School of Film and Media.
Akkineni Nageswara Rao died on 22-01-2014 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. He had been suffering from colon cancer. Before his death, he had been shooting the film Manam.
He had been born to Akkineni Venkatratnam & Akkineni Punnamma. On 18-02-1949, he married Annapurna Kollipara (film producer). Together the couple had five children including two sons named Akkineni Venkat (film producer), Akkineni Nagarjuna (actor & producer), and three brothers named Naga Susheela (film producer), Saroja Akkineni & Sathyavathi Akkineni. Naga Chaitanya, Akhil Akkineni, Sumanth, Sushanth & Supriya Yarlagadda are his grandchildren.
