Being born in a family of wrestlers and educated by her father Mahavir Singh Phogat, she’s been under the radar directly from her introduction. Her sister Geeta Phogat made it big and therefore the expectation was high from her ever since she left her international wrestling debut. After failing to perform well in the 2016 Olympics the questions were raised. She though answered all of them by winning a gold medal in the 2018 Common Wealth Games. She, together with her sisters and cousin has led to a change in mindset and attitude towards women and women in their village in Haryana. The movie Dangal loosely based on the story of her and her sister had been released in 2016. Her character was depicted by Sanya Malhotra and her younger self by Suhani Bhatnagar.
