Lal Bahadur Shastri was an Indian politician who served as the next Prime Minister of India. He encouraged the White Revolution — a nationwide effort to improve the production and distribution of milk by encouraging the Amul milk co-operative of Anand, Gujarat, and creating the National Dairy Development Board.

Young Lal Bahadur, inspired by the stories and addresses of national leaders, developed a desire to take part in the Indian nationalist movement. He would also spend some time studying foreign writers like Marx, Russell, and Lenin. In 1915, a language by Mahatma Gandhi changed the course of his life, and decided to actively participate in India’s freedom struggle.
So as to participate actively in the freedom movement, Lal Bahadur compromised even with his research. In 1921, during the non-cooperation movement, Lal Bahadur was arrested for demonstrating defiance from the prohibitory order. Since he was a little then, the police had to release him.
In 1930, Lal Bahadur Shastri became the secretary of the local unit of the Congress party and after the president of the Allahabad Congress Committee. He played a vital role during Gandhi’s’Salt Satyagraha’. He headed a door-to-door campaign, urging people to not pay land revenue and taxation to the British. Shastri was one of the prominent Congress leaders who were imprisoned by the British authorities in 1942. During the lengthy run in confinement, Lal Bahadur used the time in studying the social reformers and western philosophers.
Shastri emerged as the consensus candidate following the sudden passing of Nehru, though there were more influential leaders within the ranks of Congress. Shastri was a follower of Nehruvian socialism and exhibited exceptional cool under dire scenarios.
Lal Bahadur Shastri, who had previously suffered two heart attacks, died of a third cardiac arrest on 11 January 1966. He’s the only incumbent Indian Prime Minister to have died overseas.
