M. Visvesvaraya Biography, Relationship & Career
Among the most eminent engineers produced by India, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, better called M. Visvesvaraya, was a man of high principles and subject. An engineer par excellence, he was the primary architect behind the building of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mandya which helped to convert the surrounding barren lands into fertile grounds for farming. His dad was a Sanskrit scholar who believed in providing quality instruction to his son. Despite the fact that his parents weren’t financially rich, the young boy was subjected to a richness of tradition and culture at home. Tragedy struck the loving family when his dad died when Visvesvaraya was only a teenager. Following the death of his beloved father, he fought hard to get ahead in life. As a student, he had been poverty-stricken and earned his livelihood by tutoring younger children. Through his hard work and dedication that he finally became an engineer and went on to play a pivotal role in designing the flood protection system in Hyderabad. He was decorated with many awards and honors for his persistent contributions to the nation.
He’s best remembered for its instrumental role he played in the building of the Krishna Raja Sagara Lake and dam in 1924. This dam not only became the principal source of water for irrigation to the nearby places but was also the major source of drinking water for many cities. He had been knighted as the Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire (KCIE) from the British for his contributions to society in 1915. On 15-09-2018, to celebrate his 157th birthday Visvesvaraya was honored with a Google Doodle.
He was born into a Sanskrit scholar dad Mokshagundam Srinivasa Shastry and homemaker mother Venkatalakshmamma. His dad died when he was 12 years old.
