Saba Anjum Karim

Saba Anjum Karim is a former member of the Indian women’s hockey team. She was the youngest of all participants in baseball contest at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. She played for India in under-18 AHF Cup in 2000.

Saba Anjum Karim, among the most dignified members of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, was the youngest player in the 2002 Commonwealth Games which was held in Manchester.

In 2000, she made her debut at the under 18 AHF Cup and since then, has represented India at a series of international tournaments like Asia Cup, Commonwealth Games, Junior World Cup, New Zealand Tour, Asian Games, Buenos Aires, and a lot more.

She also received Chhattisgarh’s best Gundadhur sports award for bringing glory and pride to her nation with her performance in the domestic and international matches and soon after, she was offered the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police in 2012.

As a child, she watched many boys in her neighborhood play baseball and it kindled her interest in the match when she joined them in their daily life at age 9. It’s her passion that led her to become the forward’s right-wing striker for the Indian Hockey Team in the later days. She scored a successful goal in the closing of the Shastri Cup and had a total of 6 goals in the championship. She has participated in 3 Commonwealth games, 4 Asia Cups,4 World Cups, and 42 tournaments. She proudly possesses 14 awards and made 92 goals in 200 matches up to now.

But the reason she is in the police at this time, despite baseball her life, keeps most people wondering! She’s concrete dreams of starting an academy for all hockey fans and is working steadily towards it. She hails from a very poor family and had to fight much to proceed with her sports career and she yearns to do whatever she can to launch baseball as a motivational game for those who choose it.
